Telemental Health (telehealth) uses technology to provide mental health services from a distance. I have been interested in and educating myself about this growing area of providing professional services in a different and safe way. All the pieces have come together to add this service to my practice.
Who might use telehealth sessions rather than face to face sessions?
- clients with small children ~ save the additioanl cost for childcare
- clients with transportation issues ~ log in from phone, ipad, or computer
- clients who travel for business ~ no need to miss a session while "on the road"
- clients who need to cancel because of a time crunch ~ log in and save the driving time
- clients with physical limitations that make face to face sessions difficult
- clients in other states ~ licensed to practice in Indiana and Illinois. Can provide services in other states dependent on licensing regulations within that state.
Insurance companies that currently (July 2017) cover telehealth sessions:
Anthem
Cigna
Magellan
Optum ~ UnitedHealthcare & United Behavioral Health
